Indian Spices- The King’s of Taste
India is known as spice capital in the world as spices are the soul of an every Indian food which is heartful of authentic taste. The name itself describes the distinctive features of spices which has incredible variety of ingredients that enhances the flavour and makes each dish more attractive and aromatic. It is a spiritual act of combining traditional spices to create the magic of cooking.
In a wide array of spices, there are few essential spices which are staple for Indian cooking:
Turmeric
Turmeric which is widely used in many households for cooking because of the color and aroma it gives to the food. In an Indian style of cooking, turmeric is usually added in the beginning and sautéed with other ingredients such as onions, ginger, and garlic. It is also beneficial in many health issues.
Cinnamon
It contains a sweet and earthy flavor, which is mild in taste and commonly used in Biryani, Pulao, baked desserts like baklava, churros, cakes, pies and cinnamon rolls in different parts of India.
Coriander
Coriander plays a vital role in Indian cooking and is one of the most common ingredients which are used in making gravy and curry recipes. It is one of the most effective ingredients which helps in smooth flow of blood circulation throughout the body and its cooling properties help in digestion.
Cumin
Cumin seed is a spice which adds while we cook Indian curries, rice, poori’s, etc. Cumin seeds are the best used as whole and fried in oil at the beginning of a dish (the process called taarka).
Garam Masala
India’s most famous seasoning is Garam masala. It’s a combination of dried spices which includes pepper, cinnamon, nutmeg, cardamom, cumin, coriander and tej patta, pepper, and some others. It is used in many dishes, including Chana Masala, kitchen king, chicken masala, etc. Sometimes it’s used as Garnish.
Asafoetida
Asafoetida (hing) is among our one of the favorite Indian spices. To cook with hing, are the most powerful aromatic spices in the world.
Amchoor Powder
It always tops the list of spices and when added to any dish, it imparts a great sourness. It’s a very common Indian seasoning, which is extremely sour.
Red Chilli Powder
Indian red chili is a ground spice as the name suggests chilli; one can think the spiciness it contains but the taste may differ depending on the place it is imported.
Certainly, if you are exploring the Indian food or thinking to cook it will definitely change the repertoire of cooking. The whole description of spices is sounding intimidating and will make you crazy; it’s time to add up the scrumptious and nutritious value to your food.
